Depends. Both are good games. Zelda has more detail to actual gameplay, Mario is a more just play as you go. So whichever seems more applicable to you.

Mario for fun. Zelda for quantity. Both are good, depends on what you're in the mood for.

Personally, I had much more fun with Mario, though the game is much shorter than Zelda.

Zelda for sure ...because of this series' first open-world concept with its amazing plethora of rare items/weapons to find. And the art direction is beautiful from its general landscape lighting, articulate rustic nature of shrine patterns, etc.

Mario is okay but the change/inconsistency in the game's art direction made me not 'love' it... especially Ruin Kingdom vs Luncheon Kingdom. But had to get it still just because it was a 'Mario' game.

If you want a light hearted adventure get Mario, but if you want an epic tale that requires a bit of dedication go for Zelda
