oh I see what you mean now, once you've advanced to intermediate by talking to advancement droid in Training School you will have an event with Supreme Kai of Time and she will tell you this, and next time you go to main screen you'll have an option to 2 different lobbies, 1 displays other players but as NPC or Direct Lobby which basically shows you active players doing all crazy shit online

just don't have control of channel but if you join a team on a diff. ch. or vice versa will pop to that channel

so dude go to your main menu

connect to sever
start game
choose 2nd option

you should be able to see active players in your lobby
