I'm really curious to see what Nintendo has in store for these two characters. There's obviously a lot more to them than just being a replacement for Callie and Marie. I mean for one Marina's an octoling and Pearl looks like a demon. Also I know Callie is missing and we have to work with Marie to save her in one player mode. But we haven't seen Callie in any of the trailers or directs for this game.

Im pretty sure they are just a replacement of callie and marie. You'll probably get callie and marie back late game for the final boss song again, but they won't be replacing marina and pearl.

My theory is that probably Mariana is taken in by the inklings and raised her as their own with Pearl maybe?! That's what I think.
