gamestop has eshop code cards to specific games like Arms and Mario Kart etc. just gift him the code card.

It’s only £33 as a digital download from Nintendo at the moment. All the other options are a lot more expensive. Parent control doesn’t seem to have a per game option. Looks like the answer is to buy, delete then redownload, which is fine. Thanks very much everyone.
