But the question is, can you split screen with someone and play on a team with them in an online match? The first Splatoon had split-screen multiplayer, but it was only in the 1v1 Dojo area.

It's not a split screen game unfortunately. You can link up with up to 7 other people if they also have the game and a switch console.
