which one are you buying new? if i5, i would go for 8th gen i5. quad core i5s can struggle in many games. specially with a high end card

You're bottlenecking the 1080

Hector Ramirez you'll never get the most out of it you can with an i5. You need the newest gen i7 to get the most you can out the 8GB/10GB 1080 ti.

Even then the card is still bottlenecked.

You need 64GB DDR4 on the MOBO with two 4.5GHz Xeon Processors or better to even get 2/3rd of the 1080 ti's max performance. Graphics Cards both Radeon and NVidia have exceeded current CPU capabilities for the next several years.

You won't max the cards for a while

Martijn Niekamp a 7600k at 3.8GHz is a waste in and of itself, and could definitely hold a GTX 1080 back in some CPU intensive titles at 1080p. That being said, properly overclock your 7600k (or why bother with a k series CPU at all) and you should alleviate this issue almost entirely except in the most extreme situations...

so yes, they "match well" and thank you for phrasing it that way :p

Do you already have it? Nothing to worry about. Game on.

Are you thinking about buying it? If so, then make sure that the 7600k is a really cheap deal, because at full price, definitely get the 6 core i5 8400 or 8600k if you can instead.

There's nothing wrong with already purchased quad cores, but people buying new rigs that aren't proper budget should be looking to more than 4 cores now.

I won't ever buy another quad core again, personally.
