I use Windows Defender and haven't had a problem in years. But I also don't visit sketchy pages or download "free" software. (I do download free software; I just don't download "free" software.)

If you are on windows 10
Windows Defender will do just fine!

Avg is really good. Its now owned by avast, but avg is way lighter on resources.
