It would be the perfect time EVO is mostly about fighting games.

Or they could announce GameCube VC on Switch with Melee as a launch title.

Do games even get announced at EVO? I was thinking it may get shown at the VGAs this year.

Doubtful. I think they will announce it next year early. This year is already pretty stacked for Nintendo with Mario odyssey, MarioxRabbids, fire emblem warriors, yoshi, Kirby, Pokken, and xenoblade chronicles 2. Next year we're already supposed to get a new fire emblem, Metroid prime 4, and Pokémon, so Smash may fall in there or possibly even 2019. I'm not gonna hold my breath though.

Games usually don't get announced at EVO. There's Gamescon and the Tokyo Game Show, followed by The Game Awards at the end of each year. Those are some events to look forward to.
