If you spent the last 3+ years of your life making a great game and fine tuning every visual of a character the last thing you want is for mccree fucking hanzo
Well sure, a company wants to protect its property and not let it be "defiled". But most people who have even entered the internet know that stuff isn't going away.
That stuff is a real legal grey area like most of the time companies are chill with fan art and things like that as it is free promotion for the product but it can be argued as technically infringing copyright. It's a really weird grey area of the law it's just that companies rarely bother with it as if you start trying to like sue fans for fan art and stuff you open up a big can of worms even though you're technically in your right to as the owner of the brand to claim copyright infringement. It has happened in the past but rarely.
It was SFM porn specifically, not anything made from the ground up, because SFM uses the game’s assists to create those kinds of vids. They don’t/didn’t mind porn people made themselves, they just didn’t want actual game assets used to do it.
i believe and if anyone knows more feel free to correct me but if you are a copyright holder and someone infringes on your copyright for profit or not i think you are legally obligated to defend your copyright or give them permissions to use it. i was reading about this when people were talking about resurrecting the shadowbane vanilla.
