Tips for Winston? I’m trying to step my game up in some close combat guys that can dive in and take shit out but I die every 2 seconds... that 500 life sure shit goes quick

Don't use the jump to dive in, use it to get out of there

Only jump in when you are guaranteed getting out alive, ask your teammates to support your back, Zarya bubbles, Ana healing, Dva matrix. Also don’t use your shield at the same time with the bubble, that way you will last longer and easier to get away. Find yourself a high ground and electricfy them from above, you will have a jump to run when they spot you.
