READY OR NOT: I'm sure some of you are excited to spot the Overwatch references in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, based on the trailers. I caught a trade/press screening of the movie yesterday and I'm happy to report that it was a decent adaptation, although the book IMO is better. As expected, there were more WB and Universal references than those of Disney or other studios.
I promise I won't spoil where the Overwatch cameos happen, but if you haven't seen the trailers and intending to see the film "blind", you can stop reading now.
IIRC, there are FOUR instances of Tracer onscreen, and she says a word or two which is a little difficult to make out (nothing too character-specific, just along the lines of "Who is that?").
No other Overwatch characters appeared as far as I could see, which is a little disappointing. Maybe Spielberg and team could only wrangle the licence for Tracer. Anyway, it's amazing to see the time-travelling pilot on the big screen and it's the closest thing we'll have to an Overwatch movie at this point.
Hopefully WB and Blizzard can work out another collab like Warcraft and do one down the road.
