LONG POST WARNING!

(But not rediculously long)

Trying to decide which board and cpu to go with for my gaming rig... the others will go back in the boxes in the cupboard so leave selling stuff and buying stuff out of it but...

Option 1:

Asus H81-GAMER and i7-4790k, 16GB ddr3@ 2000

Option 2:

MSI-H110M pro-VD and i5-6400, 8GB ddr4 @2100

Option 3:

(Current build)

Asus P8Z68-3 pro/gen3 with i7-3770, 16gb ddr3 @2000

All will be paired with 128Gb 840 evo, 2tb wd blue, 620W corsair psu, evga 1080 classified...

Thinking option 1( due to benchmarks but not 100% sure...

#waddayareckon?

hmm, so a few things that kinda conflict.. hang on..

option 1 has a k sku with a non-overclockable board but with probably the best IPC stock..

I'm told the 4790k will still oc well with this board but may still bottleneck the 1080

base clock overclock maybe..

the multiplier will be unable to change unless you have a z97 chipset

option 2 is the most cost effective

option 3 is an overclockable board with a non k sku, bclk overclock still possible i believe

So I prob should just splash out on an 1150 z board hey?

i would probably just like you thought as well, go with #1

so apparently that h110m/i5-6400 option would be able to bclk overclock as well

id say option one because it's overclockable. If you don't wan't to overclock id say option 2 because of the better ipc.

i read that, realized that's a gigabyte

skylake cpus can bclk overclock with old (stock) bios but the 1-200mhz wouldn't make a huge difference, you're still pairing with a 1080.. stick with 1 guess

and i still could be wrong, i believe i read that a certain windows 10 update, mods the actual microcode on skylake chips to disable bclk overclocking even if you had an old bios that would've allowed it.
