I still think Divintiy Original Sin 2 was the true winner. Zelda was amazing but no one knows of that game nor cares. If you own a pc look the game up and give it a try.

this was obvious, anyone that thought horizon, persona would win isnt really looking at the reasons..horizon did nothing new,played safe, person was anime fan service and obvious iteration, zelda could have easily played it safe and gone with the troops it knows but instead changed and overly saturated concept in gaming(open world) and this will be the new standard for openworld, its not about cinematic, graphics...its about the concept of gameplay and philosophy of openworld...ZELDA BOTW deserve this, no other game changed the spectrum of gaming this year than BOTW.

I know some people are salty. But this game changed the way people looked at gaming. They earned it. You may feel other games "deserved" it. But botw EARNED it.
