FX has revealed one of its upcoming projects, and it's an exciting one for podcast fans. Welcome to Night Vale, the surreal podcast about a bizarre desert town home to countless conspiracy theories (which are all true in this world), is set to be adapted for television with the help of Better Call Saul executive producer Gennifer Hutchison.

, FX has agreed to a development deal with Sony Pictures Television for a new TV series based on Night Vale. Hutchison will both adapt the series and serve as executive producer, as will creators Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. A release date has not yet been announced.

"We've never met anyone in the industry who understands our world and approach to storytelling better than Gennifer does," Fink and Cranor said in a statement. "We are lucky to be working with her, as well as FX--a network with a long history of creating excellent television."

Finding a match for the podcast's voice is key. Since its debut in 2012, Night Vale has been what I would argue is the best podcast running, thanks in large part to its excellent writing, which seamlessly shifts between dramatically different tones. It's like a unique blend of Twin Peaks, The X-Files, The Twilight Zone, and Lovecraft.

There's no word on exactly what the show will be about. The podcast takes the form of a radio broadcast in the town of Night Vale, where secret police monitor everything, no one is allowed to enter the dog park, writing utensils are banned, and we get occasional updates on things like traffic and the status of Khoshekh, the cat floating in the radio station's bathroom. Most of this unfolds through the perspective of the radio host, Cecil, but the two Night Vale books have introduced new characters' perspectives, which may also prove to be the case with the TV show.
