Why does my desktop with 4x 8gb ddr3 12800 ram show 800mhz in CPU-z, and 1600mhz in task manager?

X79 board, 8 core Xeon, quad channel memory.

CPU-Z isn't always reliable when it comes to hardware details.

Your board may also under-clock your memory depending on usage. Not too sure about Xeons tbh.

DDR. Double Data Rate. 800mhz = 1600mhz.

That's correct and what it should be doing.

As said above.. DDR = double data rate - 800Mhz is its default speed, doubled to make 1600mhz. Kinda similar to CPU core speeds with their real frequency and the multiplier - eg.. 100Mhz with a x40 multiplier = 4Ghz
