What's the likelihood of 300 series mbs being backward compatible in the coming months? Will they take their sweet time because they'd rather people just bought 8th gens so they don't have to work on compatibility?

Never, the 370 aren't compatible with the 7th series because of newer features for the board. If they did unlock it would reduce performance on some item you may not even care about, but more importantly make them liars. So it won't happen
