Well, depends... is comfort an issue you're looking for?

If you're looking for a more authentic way of doing it, get some panty hose or some large pants, and pull them over your knee so that it looks like you're missing your bottom part of your leg, then make the peg with some dowel wood from Home Depot or lowes. If you're looking for more comfort, get some black or white leggings and cloth paint! That along with some shoes should help

Some people do the leg and some people don't especially in a time crunch. The MOST important part is your health if you attempt do any type of knee on a peg kinda thing. Alex pretty much covered the good advice. For quick and simple, just get a black stocking, and paint the peg leg, it's one dimensional, but if in a crunch it will look fine for photos, (half the time people cut off legs in the pictures anyways)
