I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'd like some opinions on sound cards for mixing music. I'm using Adam A7X monitors and Audio Tecnhica ATH-M50x headphones if that matters. Or am I better off just using the motherboard audio?

D to A converters on any mobo will be vastly inferior to outboard rigs.

I'd rock any Apogee (if not on a budget) or PreSonus (if on a budget) USB audio interface that fits your budget.

Just use your onboard sound card. It would be a waste to get a waste to buy a DAC unless you had way better speakers. If you want to improve your audio, you want a DAC, not a sound card. The Schiit Modi 2 is probably the best DAC for around $100 or less.

I personally use a soundcard. I use the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6. One of the best soundcards at its price and one of the best ones I've worked with. I'm a freelance producer and sounddesigner
