She can use her gun when someone extends. Use it rarely, and don't use it if people are dying, but use it.

I don't really. I prefer to boost dps unless it really makes sense.

Depends on your play style tbh. But if you're pulling out that pistol more than your staff or letting team mates die while you're at it, you've got a problem. People always need heals during heated team fights and any dps you can do is what your team mates are better equipped at doing.
