I did a little something to my GPU. The gigabyte stock fans broke off one by one...

Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980ti
Noctua Fan Controller
2 Corsair ML 120
1mm Thermal Pads
Arctic Silver Thermal Compound

The original thermal compound was barely on the die, even had a small burn-in spot that didn't look too pretty.
The thermal tape was brittle and ripped apart when taken off the vram.

Previous idle temps 32-36c
Previous peak temps 80-84c

New idle temps 26-28c
New peak temps 75-78c

Previous Boost Clock: 1250mhz
New Boost Clock: 1544mhz

Almost an extra 300mhz boost!

The Noctua fan controller was a must because the fan headers on the GPU wouldn't be able to power two 120mm case fans at 2400rpm.

I mounted the fans with zip ties on the back, they are mounted to the back plate so as little heat as possible will touch them, one zip tie in the front attaching the two fans keeps them level and flush with the GPU :)

Great job! Too much paste though. You could prolly get lower temps with less goop

My favorite part is that it leaves just enough room for a second card with the same fan mod :) . Not really looking to SLI but its nice to know i could if i wanted to.

hmm... the idea is great but.. looks like the heat sink could melt the fans... haven't done a mod like this so not sure but... it's a possibility

The reason for doing all of this was to avoid having gigabyte send me a 1070 as a replacement. Would rather have the 980ti, why? Cause (ti)!!! Lol
