My wife's left one seems to be acting up, an I just updated them

My right joy con can't be used as a separate controller (horizontal) after the update, though I've had it for over a year now. Makes me think twice if it broke down just now or if the update sort of messed it up.

Only problem with mine is that my left joycon seems to be getting loose lol

My left one is very loose from the console and my right analog stick likes to wander off in its own direction if you don't have your finger on it

Try going into the settings and recalibrating the joysticks.... I thought mine were broken, but a recalibration made them like new.
