Hey guys, can i reformat a windows 10 laptop using an external hdd?

*does the external need to have no files other than the w10 .iso?

I mean i have lots of files in my external right now. Do i need to back up everything because it will be deleted when i reformat my laptop? Or i can use my hdd external without deleting anything and still use it to reformat my laptop?

to make a bootable usb from the iso file u got then unplug the external and boot from usb

Better off buying a usb drive and making a bootable drive theyre quite cheap these days
