comes down to silicon lottery for bother mobo and cpu tbh

i could only max my 1700x to 3.875 without goingt over 1.4v

Silicon lotto my 6700k wont go passed 4.6 and most hit 4.8 easy

Yep. I personally have an i7-5820K OC'd to 4.5GHz at 1.33V I was able to make it to 4.7GHz but it's not completely stable. I've even had games like PUBG crash halfway through the match due to stability which is not what you want in a game like that or in a ranked match of any kind. Just comes down to luck and manufacturing basically.

One more thing that affects OC performance is VRM temps and motherboard power delivery & capacitors. if your motherboard is rated for OC'ing but isn't quite up to par as some of the others on the market, then that can also affect how far you can push your OC in a stable manner.
