theres airport ceo and simairport these days, decent little indie games but not that good

Microsoft's flight simulators collapsed because they were very boring and ugly. I think the obstacle today is the CPU and GPU requirements needed to make hundreds of on-screen buildings, trees, and land all look pretty and also all the number crunching in the hundred different factors affecting your plane and the surrounding area.
