Mega Man 11 Announced For PS4, Xbox One, Switch, And PC

Capcom celebrated the 30-year anniversary of Mega Man during a livestream today. After teasing that

, the publisher shared several announcements--the most significant of which is the reveal of a brand-new game, Mega Man 11.

. It's due out in 2018 and is being directed by Koji Oda, with Kazuhiro Tsuchiya on board as a producer. We got a brief look at some gameplay in a video--check it out above.

Like its predecessors, Mega Man 11 is still a 2D side-scrolling action-platformer. During the stream, the developers said that the overriding goal in development is to "resurrect" Mega Man. Fundamentally, it looks very similar to past Mega Man games, although it does feature a noticeably different art style. One key visual difference is that Mega Man's appearance will change when acquiring a new weapon--not just his color.

A release date more specific than 2018 was not shared, and it may be some time before we learn much more about the project. Capcom said we'll receive more information next summer. Also during the stream, we learned that all eight Mega Man X games are headed to the same platforms as Mega Man 11 in 2018. Additionally, both
