It's an interesting idea. Usually the Rift itself has to be connected to the computer. But I've found that the sensors at least can be connected to a USB hub which is powered.

usb 3 has max bandwidth of 5gbps vs hdmi 1/1.4 which is 10.4gbps and 18gbps respectively. This device is used for desktop expansion and not really suitable for 3d gaming.

Hey man, for my rift i use an HDMI extension, USB3.0 extension for he headset.
Then a USB 3.0 extension to a USB 3.0 hub for my sensors.

A USB 3.0 to HDMI adaptor usually has its own GPU in it. If I'm not mistaken, both HDMI connectors need to be connected to the dedicated GPU. If your GPU has other connectors, try getting a displayport to HDMI or DVI-D to HDMI. Don't use dongles like these that don't connect directly to the GPU or you may experience performance issues, or the video won't sync properly between left and right screens.
